Water main break fixed at Cannon Falls school
A water main that broke Friday afternoon at Cannon Falls Middle/High School has been repaired.
A water main that broke Friday afternoon at Cannon Falls Middle/High School has been repaired, Supt. Beth Giese said. “We worked through the night,” she said. “And it is fixed.”
A pipe froze and the water main broke Friday afternoon, prompting the school district and fire marshal to turn off the building’s sprinkler system. The school was evacuated as a result.
Giese said Goodhue-based Fitzgerald Excavating came in Friday evening and had the pipes fixed by early Saturday morning. A wresting meet was able to be held at the school Saturday.
As of Monday afternoon, Ryan Electric was still working to restore power to the school’s outdoor lights. Giese said wires to those lights needed to be cut to get to the water pipes.
Giese added that some further repairs will need to be done in the summer, when school is not in session.
Because the break was due to frozen pipes – technically an “act of God,” Giese said – it’s not known if the district’s insurance will cover repair costs. “Insurance adjusters haven’t been out yet,” she said Monday.
