Red Wing Area Senior briefs

Hospice 101

Gerise Thompson will dicuss the basics of hospice at 10 a.m. Friday Feb. 8. Gerise will examine common misconceptions about hospice care. Come and ask questions.

Dance at the Elks Club

Bring a friend and dance to the music of the Key Notes from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday Feb. 10. All ages are welcome. Cost is $7.

Laurel and Hardy

Presenter William Hoyt will show a movie at 1 p.m. Tuesday Feb. 12.

Men’s Coffee Group

Senior men may join in for morning coffee and interesting discussion at 10 a.m. every Tuesday. All are welcome, bring a friend. If you need a ride, call Faith In Action at 651-385-3456.

Cat Fostering Program

The Humane Society of Goodhue County has an over-abundance of adult cats at the shelter. Many are friendly, litter-trained and couch-potatoes who would love a lap to cuddle in.

If you would like to have a companion, consider fostering a cat. The Humane Society will provide litter boxes and dishes, as well as litter, food, routine vaccinations and support for the duration of the fostering.

The following games will be played: Duplicate Bridge – 12:15 p.m. Thursday Feb. 7; 500 – 1 p.m. Monday Feb. 11; Scrabble - 1 p.m. Wednesdays; Fun Bridge – 10 a.m. Wednesdays; Chess – 1 p.m. Thursdays

Support services offered

Several support groups and services are available.

• Hearing screenings will be given from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday Feb. 13. The screenings are sponsored by Better Hearing Aid Centers.

• The Men Only Group will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday Feb. 14.

• Foot care clinic will be available Thursdays from 1 to 3:30 p.m. with a home health nurse. To schedule an appointment, call 651-385-3410. The cost is $32.

Medical equipment available

Gently used medical equipment is available at the Senior Center to use for up to three months during a period of medical convalescence or short-term disability.

Items include wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, shower chairs, commodes and more. If you need something, visit or call the center. A $20 donation is requested to help with the ongoing program costs.
