Girls Basketball: First-half surge dooms Z-M

In Tuesday’s Hiawatha Valley Blue Division contest, Kenyon-Wanamingo went on a 22-4 run early in the first half, cruising to a 57-34 victory at Zumbrota-Mazeppa to snap the Cougars’ three-game win streak.

Megan Quam set the tone for the Knights’ victory with 16 points and six rebounds. Siri Sviggum had 12 points, and Emily Ashland added 11 points for K-W (15-8, 7-3 HVL Blue).

Z-M’s Laura Brunner and Geena Miller tied for the team lead in points with seven. Scoring was a struggle all night for the Cougars (7-12, 3-5 HVL Blue) as the team shot 28 percent from the floor.

On Friday, Z-M heads to Cannon Falls for a HVL Blue matchup.
