She was born Sept. 28, 1932, in Cannon Falls, Minn., the daughter of Carl and Frances (Johnson) Fjerstad. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1950 and married Earl Schafer on Oct. 28, 1950, in Red Wing. They lived in Belvidere where they farmed. She worked at the Red Wing Vo-Tech, did home health care, and also had worked as a nursing assistant at Hi-Park Care Center.
She was an active member of First Covenant Church. Jane volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Faith in Action and served as a leader of the 4-H Belvidere Happy-Go-Luckys. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, attending grandchildren's activities, getting together with the "Lunch Bunch," attending Bible study and other church activities, and she enjoyed reading. Earl died Sept. 4, 2012.
Survivors include two sons, Lowell (Patricia) Schafer of Goodhue and Randy (Donna) Schafer of Foley, Minn.; two daughters, Julie (Rich) DeHart of Spokane, Wash., and Meridith (David) Adomat of Prior Lake, Minn.; ten grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl and one brother, Willis Fjerstad.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at First Covenant Church with Reverend Timothy Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Goodhue. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and for 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the church.
