Boys Hockey: Wingers can't hold on against Northfield

Red Wing was unable to hold onto a 2-1 lead Thursday night in a 4-2 loss on the road against Northfield.

Red Wing was unable to hold onto a 2-1 lead Thursday night in a 4-2 loss on the road against Northfield.

The Raiders outshot the Wingers 32-23, including a 26-12 advantage in the final two periods.

Alex Rezansoff was a bright spot for Red Wing (2-15-2, 2-6-2 Missota), scoring both goals. Rezansoff’s first goal came 38 seconds into the game and his second was scored on the power play at 7 minutes, 55 seconds of the second period to give the Wingers a 2-1 lead. Dylan Goggin assisted on both goals.

Northfield tied the game at 1-1 on a goal by Nate Picha at the 7:39 mark of the first period and Red Wing led 2-1 at the end of the second period.

In the final period, the Raiders’ Nathan Scofield tallied a goal at 5:57 to tie the game at 2-2. At 10:42, Taylor Freiermuth scored the eventual game-winner on the power play with assists to Logan VonRuden and Andrew Carroll. Picha added another goal at 16:39 for the final tally of the game.

Preston Blaney made 28 saves in the loss.

The Wingers host Crookston Saturday at Prairie Island Arena.
