Wrestling: Bombers blast Tigers in HVL dual

Opening Thursday’s match with a 13-0 lead after three matches, Cannon Falls/Randolph never trailed on the way to a 51-21 Hiawatha Valley League dual meet victory over Lake City at Lincoln High School in Lake City.

At 106 pounds, Paul Fitterer put the Bombers on the board with a 17-3 major decision, and Ryan Epps followed with a 1-0 decision over the Tigers’ Carston Dammann at 113. Tyler Wilson concluded Cannon Falls/Randolph’s win streak with a pinfall victory over Brendan Allen at 120 pounds.

Andrew Schmidt got Lake City its first win at 126 pounds with a 6-4 decision before the Bombers rattled off 11 points with a pinfall win for Connor Rohr and a technical fall by Roman Wundrow. Sterling Carlson (152), Derek Johnson (160), Justin Meist (170) each tallied victories, while the team also got 12 points via forfeits.

Shane Siewert (145 pounds), Will Balow (182) and Andrew Denzer (285) each picked up pinfall victories for the Tigers in the loss.

Both teams are back on the mat Saturday as Cannon Falls/Randolph hosts a six-team tournament, while Lake City heads to a four-team dual tournament at Wabasha-Kellogg.
