River Falls library kicks off Civil War events
River Falls Public Library has a full schedule of events planned in February, starting with a reception and the opening of its Civil War exhibit from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 3.
River Falls Public Library has a full schedule of events planned in February, starting with a reception and the opening of its Civil War exhibit from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 3.
Kicking off at the same time as the exhibit is “River Falls Reads ‘The Killer Angels.’” The program will include four scheduled book discussions, three feature films and a handful of individual events at the library. Specific programs for youths are also planned.
The list of events includes:
• “Wisconsin in the Civil War” presentation; 7 p.m. Feb. 7
• “Glory” viewing; 7 p.m. Feb. 11
• “Civil War for Beginners” presentation; 7 p.m. Feb. 14
• “Songs of the Civil War” presentation; 2 p.m. Feb. 17
• “Shenandoah” viewing; 7 p.m. Feb. 18
• Youth program with cultural activities games for children in kindergarten through grade 5; 10:30 a.m. Feb. 18.
• “The Killer Angels” book discussion; 7 p.m. Feb. 19
• “Across Five Aprils” book discussion for students in grades 4 and 5; 4 p.m. Feb. 19
• “Weapons of War” presentation; 1 p.m. Feb. 23
• “Young Mr. Lincoln” viewing; 7 p.m. Feb. 25
• “The Killer Angels” book discussion; 2 p.m. Feb. 26
• “Red Badge of Courage” book discussion for students in grades 6 through 12; 4 p.m. Feb. 26
• “The Killer Angels” book discussion; 6:30 p.m. Feb. 28
• “Preserve the Union” portrayal of Mary Todd Lincoln; 1:30 p.m. March 3
• “The Killer Angels” book discussion; 4 p.m. March 4
• “Civil War Field Medicine” presentation; 7 p.m. March 7
