Thanks to a pair of first-place finishes by Paul Fitterer and Clay Broze, Cannon Falls/Randolph finished fifth in the 14-team Rochester Century Panther Invitational with a team score of 162 on Saturday.
Clinching the team championship was Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial, which finished with 272 points. Stewartville (202.5) and Lakeville South (199.5) rounded out the top three.
Fitterer, who is 33-0 this season, picked up three consecutive technical falls, including an 18-2 victory over LC-WM’s Brandon Laborde to win the 106-pound title.
Broze, who is also 33-0, won in equally dominating fashion, scoring three straight pinfalls, including the 220-pound championship match, topping Lakeville South’s Alonte Alexander in 2 minutes, 4 seconds.
Keston Lopez (126 pounds) and Justin Miest (170) also reached the finals for the Bombers, with both finishing in second place. Lopez went 2-0 before facing Triton’s Patrick Ramirez in the 126-pound finals, losing in a 7-0 decision. Miest dominated in his first two matches before coming up against LC-WM’s Davantay Corey, who won the 170-pound title in a 12-4 major decision.
Cannon Falls/Randolph is in action Thursday, traveling to Lake City.
