The city of Red Wing and Wendell Pittenger could face each other in the courtroom this summer. A jury trial is set for 9 a.m. Aug. 19.
Meanwhile, city officials continue to look into proposals for keeping Mississippi National Golf Links — the source of the lawsuit — open this season.
The city sued the former golf course operator in October.
Associated Bank is a party because of the fact it holds the revenue bond that is tied to the lease which Pittenger and his golf operations signed with the city. That bond apparently stands at roughly $1.1 million due.
The parties are scheduled for mediation Feb. 13.
“We are hopeful that the parties can work through our outstanding differences and avoid going through with the court process,” City Council President Lisa Bayley said.
The city accuses Pittenger of a breach of contract and is asking for a number of decisions on issues including financial restitution.
The city owns the 36-hole course and leased it to Pittenger, who closed it this fall.
The city sent a notice of default to Pittenger on Sept. 25.
