Girls Basketball: Cougars cruise past Bombers

Sparked by double-digit efforts from Laura Brunner and Kalli Paukert, Zumbrota-Mazeppa cruised to a 74-26 Hiawatha Valley League Blue Division victory over Cannon Falls Tuesday in Zumbrota.

Sparked by double-digit efforts from Laura Brunner and Kalli Paukert, Zumbrota-Mazeppa cruised to a 74-26 Hiawatha Valley League Blue Division victory over Cannon Falls Tuesday in Zumbrota.

With the win, the Cougars snapped a three-game losing skid.

Brunner had a game-high 15 points, and also had three steals and four offensive rebounds, while Paukert added 13 points, five boards and three steals for the Cougars. Z-M (5-11, 2-4 HVL Blue) finished with 17 offensive rebounds in the game and tallied 20 steals in the victory.

Courtney Woodcock led the Bombers (0-17, 0-7 HVL Blue) with eight points as the team was held to just 9 of 25 shooting. Callie Loeschke added five points in the loss.

Z-M heads to Triton on Friday, while Cannon Falls heads to Hope Academy on Thursday.
