Red Wing traveled to face Chaska/Chanhassen Thursday and came up short against the Storm Hawks 107-79.

The Wingers won seven events Thursday.

“Last night’s meet went well considering Chaska/Chan is one of the top two teams in our conference,” Red Wing head coach Kevin O’Brien said. “It has been a tough week for the boys having four meets in seven days including tomorrow’s True Team meet in Austin. … In spite of that, the boys swam well.”

Adam Sienczak won the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 51.42 seconds for the Wingers and the 100 freestyle in 50.12 seconds.

Red Wing also tallied multiple personal records in Thursday’s loss.

Tanner Alms put forth a personal best in the 200 individual medley for the Wingers with a time of 2:03.00 to take first place and also finished in the top spot in the 500 freestyle in 4:55.78, 15.72 second ahead of the second-place finisher. Red Wing’s Josh Berg also set a personal record in the 200 freestyle in 1:57.47, Dan O’Keefe swam a career best 24.03 seconds in the 50 freestyle and Ryan Schnaith finished the 50 freestyle in 25.30 seconds for a personal record.

The Wingers’ Hunter Connelly established his personal best time in the 100 backstroke in 56.95 seconds and took first place by almost three seconds.

“He is going to be one to watch at the state meet,” O’Brien said.

Chris Byrne placed first in the 1-meter diving for Red Wing with a score of 169.50. Byrne was also second in the 100 butterfly competition.

As a team, the Wingers took first in the 200 freestyle relay, second in the 200 medley relay and second in the 400 freestyle relay.

“All in all, it was a good meet,” O’Brien said. “The boys have had their focus on the True Team meet all week so they are excited and ready to race and get a second chance at (sixth-ranked in 1A) Austin.”

The Section 1A True Team meet takes place today in Austin.
