Cannon Falls captured a crucial Hiawatha Valley League Blue Division victory Friday with a 58-47 win over conference-leading Lake City in Cannon Falls.
The Tigers were unbeaten in conference play before Friday night.
“Things have been coming around but they’ve been playing better defense. It’s nice to see in a big game,” Cannon Falls head coach Josh Davisson said. “It was nice for them to beat a real solid team tonight and finish it out. Hopefully that gives them some confidence moving forward. And in terms of the HVL Blue that was a very important game for us to get.”
Jordan Lundell led all scorers with 20 points for the Bombers (8-7, 5-1 HVL Blue). Noah Callister provided nine points and 13 rebounds while Paul Rolfes finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
“Paul played great today,” Davisson said. “He was just very active on the defensive end. He got to roam a little bit and cause a little chaos.”
Lake City (13-2, 6-1 HVL Blue) was led by Ben Schramski with 18 points and seven rebounds. Brady Kuchinka added 12 points and Reid Lundell contributed eight points and six rebounds in the loss.
Cannon Falls held a 23-20 lead at halftime and outrebounded the Tigers 35-27.
The Bombers host Zumbrota-Mazeppa Tuesday and Lake City travels Tuesday to face eighth-ranked (2A) Rochester Lourdes.
