Poets, artists will collaborate again

Crossings’ annual Poet-Artist Collaboration is set to be exhibited during April, which is National Poetry Month. The art center is seeking poets and artists for this juried exhibit.

"Poet-Artist Collaboration is our way of providing a place for magic that happens when two forms of art - the written word and the visual piece - come together in a deliberate way,” said Marie Marvin of Crossings. "We're pleased this exhibit has grown ever-more popular among writers, artists and the general public over the 12 years we've coordinated it."

Poets are invited to submit up to three poems; there is no entry fee for poets. Poems will be chosen by a jury. Each poem must be no longer than two typed pages.

Artists may apply to participate by submitting some examples of their work and paying a $15 entry fee. Artists also will be juried.

Once the poems are selected, the participating artists are each able to select a poem, and then create a piece of art inspired by the poem. Actual works for the exhibit are due shortly before the installation of the exhibit.

Artists creating for this collaboration can use most mediums, including but not limited to painting, textiles, sculpture and mixed media.

The deadline for both poets and artists to register is Feb. 8, 2013.
