Goodhue’s shooting troubles continued Thursday night against Kenyon-Wanamingo but the Wildcats eked out a 52-51 overtime victory in Kenyon.
“It seemed like for a lot of the first half, we settled for our shots,” Goodhue head coach Josh Wieme said. “It’s not that hard to pass around the perimeter and just chuck something up.”
The Wildcats shot just 32 percent from the field and 4 of 20 behind the 3-point line.
“I think that’s the right number of 3’s for us to take but they’ve got to come from the inside out,” said Wieme.
Mikayla Miller provided a double-double for Goodhue (14-2, 5-1 HVL Blue) with 25 points and 13 rebounds as the Wildcats shot just 32 percent for the game. Mikayla Tipcke added nine points and Kali Ryan contributed 10 points and four steals in the win.
The Knights (11-7, 4-2 HVL Blue) were led by Siri Sviggum with 15 points and Megan Quam had 12 points. K-W shot 33 percent from the field and had 18 turnovers in the loss.
The game was tied 20-20 at halftime and 47-47 at the end of regulation.
Goodhue’s Shelby Hinsch knocked down two free throws with around a minute left in overtime to go up 52-51 and the Wildcats stopped the Knights’ final possessions to secure the victory.
Goodhue hosts Hudson (Wis.) Saturday at 7 p.m.
