Boys Basketball: Z-M locks down Pine Island

Zumbrota-Mazeppa’s defense was at its best Thursday night as the Cougars ran away with a 55-25 victory over Pine Island in Zumbrota.

The Panthers shot just 18 percent from the field, 9 of 16 from the free-throw line, and turned the ball over 24 times in the loss.

Z-M was led by Lucas Ziemba, who finished with 15 points on 7 of 9 shooting, three rebounds and three steals. Nathaniel Rauen tallied nine points and three steals while Kevin Niebuhr contributed eight points and 12 rebounds. Kurt Gadient knocked down two 3-pointers and scored eight points. The Cougars had 14 steals in the win and led 27-10 at halftime.

Z-M plays Cannon Falls Tuesday in Cannon Falls.
