The Red Wing boys hockey team gave itself a point in the Missota Conference standings on Tuesday with a 2-2 tie at New Prague.
Outshooting the Trojans 33-19, the Wingers (0-12-2, 0-3-2 Missota) got on the board at 14 minutes, 25 seconds of the first period when Michael Bigelbach popped in a goal off passes from Nick Sammon and Jamie Nevitt. New Prague responded just 37 seconds later when Jordan Lein put in an unassisted goal.
The Trojans (6-6-2, 4-1-1 Missota) took the lead at 4:59 of the second period when an Austin Kilian pass found Lucas Binger’s stick for the 2-1 New Prague advantage.
At 7:05 of the second, Sammon tied the game up for Red Wing on the power-play, with an assist coming from Jack Gorman. The power-play goal was just the Wingers’ sixth of the season.
Despite Red Wing holding New Prague to just five shots on goal in the third period and overtime, both teams played to a standstill. Wingers goaltender Preston Blaney had 17 saves, while the Trojans’ Evan Bisek stopped 31 in the tie.
Still looking for that elusive first win, Red Wing hosts Chaska on Friday.
