Letter: Conception is life, not a process

Planned Parenthood affiliates serve as the nation's largest provider of publicly funded birth control for low-income women. Yes, clinics do some good things, but this letter is about the abortions performed.

To the Editor:

Planned Parenthood affiliates serve as the nation's largest provider of publicly funded birth control for low-income women. Yes, clinics do some good things, but this letter is about the abortions performed.

Abortion is legal since 1973, so it's up pregnant women to decide.

Americans do not like to see little Americans killed. Legislators have tried to protect them. In Minnesota, Rep. Cliff Stearns demanded 13 years of financial records from all of the nearly 800 Planned Parenthood Centers. Also, there was a bill in our Legislature requesting regular inspections of abortion providers just as all health clinics are inspected.

Planned Parenthood's lawyers will fight against pro-life in the examination room, in the class room, the courtroom and the halls of Congress and state legislatures.

Planned Parenthood claims to provide safe and compassionate abortion care. To know the truth, read "The Scarlet Lady" by Carol Everett. In 1974 she entered the ground floor of a lucrative business in which she would quickly excel. She operated a women's clinic specializing in abortions. Later she became a Christian and now works for Pro-life.

Since 1973 Christian churches have been called on to advise members what the Bible says about abortion.

All Christians know of the commandment: Do not kill. The question is: When does life begin?

Genesis 2:7: The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being.

Life is when God's creating and sustaining spirit enters animals or human beings. More verses regarding this are: Genesis 1:20, 1:24 and 1:30; Psalm 104:25-30, Isaiah 57:16, Job 32:8 and 33:4.

The Bible's teaching that life is not simply a natural process but something initiated by God is brought out in Hebrews 11:11.

The beginning of life is not a process but an event. The event is God's sending his breath, the part of our being we call a spirit. This truth enables Christians to identify when life begins, using modern scientific terms, namely, when the egg is fertilized, DNA is shared and the cell has the power to divide.
