Dorothy Mary Turek Nelson, 87, of Red Wing, died Monday, Jan. 14, at the Seminary Home in Red Wing, after complications from a recent surgery.

Dorothy Mary Turek Nelson, 87, of Red Wing, died Monday, Jan. 14, at the Seminary Home in Red Wing, after complications from a recent surgery.

She was born Dec. 4, 1925, to Adolph and Wilhelmina (Popenfus) Turek. She grew up in Hampton and moved to Red Wing in 1941. On Oct. 21, 1944, she married Roland Knudsen. Roland died on Jan. 4, 1968. She later married Clifford Nelson on Nov. 14, 1975. Dorothy waitressed at the Skyline Ballroom, Mary's Supper Club, and the St. James Hotel, retiring in 1990. Clifford died Aug. 17, 1991.

Dorothy was a loving and amazing mother and grandmother. She enjoyed the Minnesota Twins, cooking, canning, and her cat, Lily. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends and neighbors, both past and present, and most of all, being with her family.

She is survived by six children, Ron (Peggy) Knudsen of Old Frontenac, Randy (Karin) Knudsen of Prescott, Wis., Jeff (Teri) Knudsen of Goodhue, Mike (Sue) Knudsen of Hager City, Nancy Knudsen of Red Wing, and Lori (Don) Scribner of Red Wing; 13 grandchildren, Josh (Ruth) Knudsen, Noah (Stephanie) Knudsen, Hayley (Troy) Ingli, Norah (Mark) Knabe, Evan Knudsen, Jesse Grave, Leah Grave, Lindsay Scribner, Ashley Knudsen, Jordan Knudsen, Sarah (Mitch) Meives, Emily Knudsen, Michael Knudsen; step-grandsons, Donnie and Adam Scribner; 10 great-grandchildren, Amarie, Amila, Clara, Brody, Bennet, Owen, twins Analya and Adalyn, Charles and Kinsley; and one brother, August (Mary) Turek of White Bear Lake.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Roland Knudsen and Clifford Nelson; an infant daughter, Judy; a son, Charles, on March 31, 1971; her parents; brothers Rudolph and Frank; and a sister, Marcella Dunn.

The family of Dorothy would like to thank the Seminary Home staff for the excellent care and friendship they provided during Dorothy's final months of life.

Mass of the Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Urn bearers will be her grandsons, Josh Knudsen, Noah Knudsen, Jesse Grave, Michael Knudsen, Jordan Knudsen, and Evan Knudsen. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and for 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to donor's choice.
