Marian Elizabeth Schafer, age 86, of Red Wing, died Sunday, Jan. 13.

Marian Elizabeth Schafer, age 86, of Red Wing, died Sunday, Jan. 13.

She was born Jan. 29, 1926, in Belvidere Township, to Karl and Margarete (Mohr) Kehren. She attended country school and graduated from Goodhue High School in 1944. She attended the University of Minnesota Institute of Agriculture. She married Roy Schafer on Feb. 3, 1945, in St. Paul, and they began farming in Goodhue for 12 years, and in March of 1957, they moved to Red Wing. She worked at Nybo's, Creola's, and finally at Jostens where she worked for 27 years, retiring in 1991. After retirement, she and Roy enjoyed traveling.

She was a member of the Church of St. Joseph where she was active in the Ladies Society. She was also a member of the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54 and the Burnson Lillyblad VFW Post #1218 Auxiliaries. She enjoyed garage sales, camping, fishing, reading, and flower gardening.

Survivors include her husband, Roy of Red Wing; two children, Clayton "Duffy" (Dianna) Schafer and Sharleen Williams, both of Red Wing; one grandson, Troy Schafer; siblings Margaret Nelson of Bay City, Frances Klein of Lake City, Frederick (Lotte) Kehren of New Prague, Reno Kehren of Savage, Alice (Frederick) Sprick of Lake City, and Jean (Jim) Halling of Zumbrota.

She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings: Charles Kehren, Hazel Hendel, William Kehren, Rudolph "Nick" Kehren, and Victor Kehren.

Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Goodhue. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and for 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Villa Maria or the American Stroke Association.
