With a suffocating defense and some second-half sharpshooting by Emilee Roschen, the Goodhue girls basketball team won its 12th straight game with a 58-39 victory at Spring Grove on Saturday.
“We didn’t press much, but we sure were stingy,” said Wildcats head coach Josh Wieme. “We forced a lot of turnovers and really did a great job on defense.”
Up 28-9 at halftime, Roschen hit four straight 3-pointers to open the second half. Roschen finished with 12 points, while McKayla Miller added a game-high 22 points for the Wildcats (13-1). Miller also grabbed nine rebounds, and Meredith Watson snatched 11 boards.
Addy Cross paced the Lions (8-6) with nine points.
Second-ranked (1A) Goodhue hosts Pine Island on Tuesday in a matchup between the Hiawatha Valley League Blue division’s top two teams.
