Hosting a quadrangular on Thursday, the Goodhue wrestling team went 2-1, with wins over Rochester John Marshall and Wabasha-Kellogg, while Cannon Falls/Randolph went a perfect 2-0.
Against Wabasha-Kellogg, the Wildcats overcame a 6-0 deficit with pinfall victories by Joel Gadient and Matthew Lexvold at 120 and 126 pounds, respectively. At 132 pounds, Kyle Drehmel added a 15-2 major decision that put Goodhue ahead 16-6 after five matches, eventually leading to a 45-27 Goodhue victory.
Against John Marshall, Bailee O’Reilly (113), Gadient (120), Drehmel (126) and Lexvold (132) tallied consecutive pinfalls for a 24-6 advantage after five matches on the way to a 49-30 victory for Goodhue.
The Wildcats’ lone loss came against Cannon Falls/Randolph, as the Bombers jumped out to a 17-0 lead on the way to a 57-18 victory. Paul Fitterer (106) and Keston Lopez (126) each won by major decision during the run, and Ryan Epps added a pinfall in 1 minute, 15 seconds.
After two Wildcat wins, the Bombers responded with 16 straight points, including a forfeit and a pin by Roman Wundrow at 145 pounds.
In its other match Thursday, Cannon Falls/Randolph cruised past Wabasha-Kellogg 65-12. The Bombers sprang out to a 47-0 lead, thanks to pinfalls from Tyler Wilson (120), Lopez (126), Wundrow (145) and Derek Johnson (160).
Both Cannon Falls/Randolph and Goodhue are back on the mat Saturday. The Bombers travel to Montgomery, Minn. to face Tri-City United, while the Wildcats head to Mauston, Wis. for a tournament.
