Wrestling: Ellsworth competes at Cheesehead Invitational

The Ellsworth wrestling team finished 19th out of 28 teams from across the Midwest at the 2013 Cheesehead Wrestling Invitational Saturday in Kaukauna, Wis.

The Ellsworth wrestling team finished 19th out of 28 teams from across the Midwest at the 2013 Cheesehead Wrestling Invitational Saturday in Kaukauna, Wis.

The Panthers scored 184.5 points during the two-day tournament.

Gable Frandsen secured Ellsworth’s top finish in third place at 170 pounds. Frandsen went 6-2, including 6-5 decision over Josh Meins, of Port Washington, Wis., in the third-place match. Jens Lantz took sixth place at 120 pounds and won his first three matches of the invite and finished with a 4-3 record to tally 41.50 team points.

Tristen Mueller was the only other Panther to finish in the top 10, taking eight place at 138 pounds. Mueller dropped an 8-5 decision in the 7th-place match but finished the tournament with a 3-4 record.

Jacob Murphy took 12th place for Ellsworth, scoring 18 team points, and went 3-5 during the invite.

The Panthers are back on the mat Thursday in a home dual against Prescott.
