One killed in Pierce County crash

A River Falls woman was killed Tuesday morning when her vehicle hit another vehicle head-on in Ellsworth Township, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Katherine R. Kennedy, 25, was northbound on State Highway 65 when she lost control of her Buick LeSabre while going around a curve. Her vehicle crossed the center line and struck a southbound Toyota van driven by William G. Platz, 50, of River Falls. The roadway was slippery due at the time to light snow.

Authorities were notified of the crash just after 7:30 a.m. Kennedy was pronounced dead at the scene. Platz was transported to River Falls Hospital with undetermined injuries.

Ellsworth Police, Ellsworth Fire and Ambulance, River Falls Ambulance and Life Link Helicopter assisted at the scene. The crash is under investigation.
