The leading baby names of 2012

Based on the birth announcements printed in the Republican Eagle, here are the names that area parents favored the most during the last year.

According to babynames.com, Liam and Charlotte stole the top spots for boy and girl baby names nationally in 2012 — but neither one proved popular locally.

Based on the birth announcements printed in the Republican Eagle, here are the names that area parents favored the most during the last year.

Boys

Patrick and Mason tied for first on the list of top boy names as each was used three times. Every one of those babies still has a unique name, however, because all six middle names were different — Oliver, Steven, Michael, Carl, Vincent and Zachary.

Quite a few names were used twice for local boys, such as Calvin, Colton, Carson/Karsen, Griffin, Knox/Nox, Logan and Noah.

Girls

Parents showed less favoritism toward one specific female name as a handful of different options tied with only two uses apiece. They include MacKenzie/Mckenzie, Miah/Mya, Peyton/Payton and Sophia.

Daelyn, Ebba, Jaysa, Kinsley, Lyra, Savea and Starlette were just a few of those that were exclusive to one newborn.
