Wrestling: Z-M makes late charge in victory

Trailing 11-10 after four matches, 10th-ranked (1A) Zumbrota-Mazeppa closed out its dual match with Stewartville by winning the next 10 matches on the way to a 58-11 victory Thursday in Stewartville.

At 132 pounds, Devin Manzy gave the lead back to the Cougars with a pinfall victory over Shawn Curtis. After a win via forfeit, Cody Heitman and Hunter Prodzinski increased Z-M’s lead to 34-11 with consecutive pinfalls at 145 and 152 pounds, respectively.

Dillon Downes (170 pounds), Caleb Giannini (182), Seth Tupper (195) and Jordan Ronningen (220) each secured wins by decision to close out the dual.

On Saturday, the Cougars head to the Maple River Invitational to face a field that includes: Albert Lea (No. 6, 3A), Grand Meadow, Medford, New Ulm and Madelia-Truman.
