Alta Mae Rude, 83

Alta Mae Rude, 83, of Zumbrota, died on Tuesday, Jan. 1, at Zumbrota Health Services.

Alta Mae was born on Dec. 20, 1929, in rural White Rock, to Fred and Phoebe Berg. She graduated from Cannon Falls High School. She worked at a dental office as a dental assistant and the local restaurant in Cannon Falls. On Aug. 25, 1951, she married Harris J. Rude at Spring Garden Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. The couple lived in Alabama for a short period of time before they returned to Zumbrota where they made their lifelong home. She was a homemaker, and worked for many years as a home health aide for Goodhue County and sold in home cosmetics.

The couple enjoyed playing cards, traveling, boating, camping, dancing, and wintering in Arizona. They were both avid supporters of their grandchildren's activities. Alta Mae belonged to several bridge clubs in the community and was an active member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for many years.

Alta Mae is survived by three children, Douglas (Jackie) Rude of Rochester, John (Connie) Rude of Zumbrota, Patty (Corey) Nelson of Cannon Falls; nine grandchildren, Jason (Traci) Rude, Aaron (Jessica) Rude, Lisanne (Kris) Shumway, Kara (Justin) McNamara, Jason (Rochelle) Aune, Justin (Megan) Aune, Adam Aune, Amanda Nelson, Matt Nelson; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Alta Mae was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Harris, who died on Feb. 24, 2010; son-in-law Doug Aune; and brother, Fredrick Berg.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor Tom Isaacson officiating. Burial will be in United Lutheran Cemetery in Zumbrota. The visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, and for 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to donor's choice or any Alzheimer's association.
