Red Wing grabbed the title of the Warrior Club Holiday Basketball Tournament with a 48-41 victory against Winona Saturday at Winona State University.

Senior Macy Kelly filled up the stat sheet for the fifth-ranked (3A) Wingers (9-2, 1-0 Missota), finishing with 13 points, six rebounds, five assists and eight steals.

“She was really active,” Red Wing head coach Dave Muelken said. “She played really well.”

Senior Tesha Buck scored a team-high 21 points in the win and sophomore McKenzie Muelken had eight points.

The Wingers led 30-20 at halftime and Dave Muelken said Red Wing maintained a comfortable lead for most of the game.

“We started out well and it was pretty much the same the whole time,” he said. “You get in the section and you just don’t want to lay an egg or let one get away. Come seeding time, these are big games.”

Next up, the Wingers face fourth-ranked (3A) Chaska Friday at home in a Missota Conference matchup.

“That’s a big one,” Dave Muelken said. “They’re clearly one of the better 3A teams in the state. That’ll be a great test for us.”
