Red Wing won the championship of the Federated Insurance Classic Friday in Owatonna by defeating Owatonna 54-45.

It was a defensive battle that saw the Wingers leading just 19-13 at halftime.

Isaac Toivonen led the Wingers (6-3) with 17 points and six rebounds. Nick Powers had eight points, Jon Sevlie finished with seven points and three steals and Ty Buck had six points and four assists in the victory.

Red Wing turned the ball over 14 times but Doug Toivonen said he didn’t feel like the Wingers made too many mistakes against a team that is good at setting up defensive pressure.

Sam Fenske had 13 points to lead the Huskies (3-3) and Owen Statlander finished with 12 points. Owatonna was 9-for-18 from the free-throw line and made just 2 of 22 3-point attempts.

Isaac Toivonen, Ryan Boldt and Sevlie were named to the all-tournament team for Red Wing.

The Wingers get an extended break before facing Waseca Jan. 8 in Waseca.
