Girls Hockey: Fast start puts Red Wing past Rogers

Jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the first period, the Red Wing girls hockey team made quick work of Rogers in the first round of the Armstrong/Cooper tournament, winning 6-1 Thursday in New Hope.
At 3 minutes, 19 seconds, Nicole Schammel got the Wingers on the board with her first goal of the game off an assist from Emily Stegora. Then over a minute later, Katelyn Hadler scored her first goal of the season off passes from Paige Haley and Caitie Turcotte.
Paige Haley, Reagan Haley and Schammel each tallied goals later in the period for the 5-0 advantage. Red Wing outshot Rogers 20-8 in the first 17 minutes.
In the second period, Schammel scored her third goal of the game for the 6-0 advantage. Paige and Reagan Haley had assists on the play, helping Schammel to her sixth hat trick of the season.
The Royals finally reached the scoreboard in the third period on an unassisted goal by Kaitlin Braiedy.
