Country star Dwight Yoakam will take the stage at Treasure Island Resort & Casino shortly after the New Year.
Yoakam will perform at the Event Center on Friday Jan. 11. His songs are full of twang and truth that blend country sounds with other musical styles, making Yoakam and his music one of a kind, promoters said.
His current album, “3 Pearls,” is featured in American Songwriter’s top 50 albums of 2012 at No. 18.
“Seven years is a long time between albums of original material, but Yoakam’s return to old label Warner Brothers was a thrilling, unqualified success,” American Songwriter wrote in a review of the album. “His new songs beautifully navigate the fertile territory between Rubber Soul pop, Byrds’ styled country and the reverbed Bakersfield twang that has always been a mainstay of his sound.”
Yoakam has two Grammy awards and has had 21 nominations in his years of performing. He also has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide.
The Kentucky native lists performers such as Elvis and Beck among his icons and aims to blend Americana, rock, pop and soul styles in his music. Fans might recognize hits such as “Honky Tonk Man,” “Please Please Baby,” “Little Sister” and “Thousand Miles from Nowhere” among his most popular songs.
The Treasure Island show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $38 and $48. Call 877-849-1640 or visit www.ticasino.com for more information or to purchase tickets.
