Folk duo takes to Zumbrota stage

Bill and Kate Isles’ voices were made to be together, as they themselves were, promoters of the singing-songwriting couple said. The folk duo will return to Crossings at Carnegie in Zumbrota Jan. 4 to continue a tradition: It's their 10th performance on Crossings’ stage celebrating New Year’s.

Admittedly romantic, many of their lyrics focus on the joys of relationships, but others explore metaphorical worlds. Words like “transcendent” and “mesmerizing” and “slapstick” are among the descriptions of their concerts, promoters said.

Duluth-based Bill Isles’ urgency to tell his stories in song springs from his survival of sudden cardiac arrest in 1993. Instead of ending his life, the experience jump-started his creative energies, he said, resulting in a 150 shows-per-year itinerary.

Kate Isles was a closet singer-songwriter when she met Bill at a release party for his first CD. They have toured nationally as a duo, full-time, since early 2007.

Their late-2011 duo album, “Still Beneath the Stars and Moon,” includes 10 original songs and showcases their respective songwriting with several of Kate’s songs as well as a few they have co-written.
