Clara Viola Samuelson, age 101, of Cannon Falls, died on Monday evening, Dec. 17, at Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.
Clara Viola Samuelson, age 101, of Cannon Falls, died on Monday evening, Dec. 17, at Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.
Clara was born on July 26, 1911, in North Dakota, the daughter of Axel and Olga (Nordquist) Rapp. The family moved back to the Cannon Falls area when Clara was 2 weeks old. She was the third child in a family of twelve: eight boys and four girls.
On June 10, 1931, she was united in marriage to Raymond C. Samuelson at her parent's home in Cannon Falls Township. She was a longtime Cannon Falls Township resident, moving to Vasa Township in 1958. She continued living there until 2009, when she moved to Twin Rivers Senior Campus.
Clara was an active member at Vasa Lutheran Church. She loved sewing and has made hundreds of quilts of all sizes. She also loved growing flowers, crocheting, and knitting. She loved spending time over coffee and treats with family and friends. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered as a wonderful person!
Clara is survived by her three children, Richard (Jerrie) Samuelson and Joan Hemmah, both of Cannon Falls, and Janice (Vern) Olmanson of St. Peter; 12 grandchildren, Bruce (Laura) and Bradly (Susan) Hemmah, Jeffrey (Susan), Stuart (Susan), David (Sharie), John (Sarah), and Michael (Randi) Samuelson, Douglas (Peg), Paul (Debra), Steve (Bonnie), Peter (Tammy), and David (Chris) Olmanson; 26 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; sister Lucille Callstrom of Cannon Falls; brothers George (Clarise) Rapp and Virgil (Doris) Rapp, all of Cannon Falls; sisters-in-law, Norma Rapp of Aitkin, Lenora Rapp, and Marian Rapp, both of Cannon Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond C. on Sept. 3, 1994; sisters Rosella Holm and Doris Banks; brothers Henry, A. Conrad, Raymond, Arnold, Marvin, and LeRoy Rapp; son-in-law Merlan Hemmah; and great-grandson Joey Hemmah.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at Vasa Lutheran Church, with Pastor Kristi Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Vasa Lutheran Church, Angels Care Center, or donor's choice.
