Wrestling: Lake City competes at Minnesota Christmas Tournament

The Lake City wrestling team finished 31st out of 36 teams in the two-day Minnesota Christmas Tournament at the Rochester Regional Sports Center. The Tigers scored 50 points.

The Lake City wrestling team finished 31st out of 36 teams in the two-day Minnesota Christmas Tournament at the Rochester Regional Sports Center. The Tigers scored 50 points.

Winning the tournament was St. Michael-Albertville, which had a team score of 256.5. Apple Valley finished second with 247.5, and Kasson-Mantorville took third with 245.0. Apple Valley, St. Michael-Albertville and Kasson-Mantorville rank fourth, fifth and 18th, respectively, in the national rankings.

Taking top honors for the Tigers was junior 182-pounder Will Balow, who finished in third place in his weight class. In the third-place match, Balow defeated Albert Lea’s Tristan Westerlund by pinfall with eight seconds remaining in the match.

Lake City heads to Kenyon-Wanamingo Thursday for a triangular with K-W and Kasson-Mantorville.
