Girls Basketball: Cougars drop 3rd straight

Zumbrota-Mazeppa drops to 1-5 after a 65-48 loss to No. 9 Dover-Eyota on Monday

Sparked by double-digit scoring efforts from Brandi Blatner and Sarah Pease, Dover-Eyota pulled away with a 65-48 victory over Zumbrota-Mazeppa Monday in Eyota.

Blatner led the ninth-ranked (2A) Eagles with 18 points, while Pease chipped in with 16. Dover-Eyota (9-0) shot 41 percent, and outscored Z-M 33-21 in the first half.

The Cougars (1-5) did not have a player in double digits as Hailey Dykes had a team-high eight points. Molly Lawler and Laura Brunner each tallied seven in the loss. Kalli Paukert and Amber Jentsch each grabbed seven rebounds for Z-M, which hosts Goodhue today in the Cougars’ Hiawatha Valley League opener.
