Wrestling: Goodhue tops Chisago Lakes tournament

Competing at the Chisago Lakes Holiday Tournament on Friday, the Goodhue wrestling team took first place in three weight classes, winning the eight-team tournament with a score of 220.

Competing at the Chisago Lakes Holiday Tournament on Friday, the Goodhue wrestling team took first place in three weight classes, winning the eight-team tournament with a score of 220.

Host Chisago Lakes was second with 207, and St. Croix Falls finished third with 160.

Bailee O’Reilly (106 pounds), Kyle Drehmel (132) and Charles Dahling (170) each took first place for the Wildcats, while Joel Gadient (113), Mason Huemann (120), Matthew Lexvold (126), Mitchell Breuer (152) and Ryan Tipcke (285) each finished second in their respective weight classes.

O’Reilly clinched the 106-pound championship after taking a 16-2 major decision over North St. Paul’s Bishop McDonald. At 132, Drehmel won by pinfall over St. Croix Falls’ James Klassen in 2 minutes, 47 seconds, while Dahling pinned Chisago Lakes’ Eric Brown in 3:53 to take the 170-pound title.

Breuer reached a milestone for Goodhue on Friday, winning his 100th career match after going 2-1. Breuer lost in a 5-3 decision in the 152-pound finals to Chisago Lakes’ Mark Sontag.

The Wildcats return to action on Thursday, hosting La Crescent and Stewartville in a triangular.
