Xcel to increase rates next month

Xcel Energy will increase its electric rates starting in January 2013.

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission this week approved an interim rate increase until a decision in September on a final rate. The average customer will pay about $8 more per month.

The public will have an opportunity to weigh in on the increase during a hearing this spring before the final decision is made.
