Guitar master Dean Magraw and singer-songwriter Vicky Emerson will join forces for a night of music at Crossings at Carnegie on Saturday Dec. 22.

Magraw is a local legend as a guitarist, composer, arranger and producer. Emerson is a refreshing young talent with roots in rural Wisconsin.

Together, Magraw’s dynamic guitar playing, Emerson’s powerful voice and their combination of wit will make for an evening that should be scheduled into everyone’s holiday celebrations, organizers said.

Magraw’s passion transcends all perceived musical boundaries, yet the vital essence of his distinctive style is ever present, whether he’s performing and recording as a solo artist, leading his own ensembles such as the experimental jam band Eight Head or collaborating with such notables as Japanese shamisen prodigy Nitta Masahiro, classical violinist Nigel Kennedy, epic songstress and storyteller Ruth MacKenzie, Irish super group Altan, radio and film celebrity Garrison Keillor, jazz bassist Anthony Cox and countless others.

In 2008 he released “Foxfire,” his latest solo release. Since then, four collaborative albums have been released. The more recent was in 2010 when Magraw reunited with tabla player Marcus Wise to put out “How the Light Gets In.”

Emerson’s latest project is an album set to be released later this year that is called “Dust & Echoes.” The CD is an exquisite, sophisticated, deeply personal collection of songs spanning a chaotic two year period during which Emerson became a parent and moved from New York City to San Francisco. Fans will not be disappointed as each track encompasses the folky, Americana vibe that Emerson has become so well known for.
