Wrestling: Ellsworth finish strong against New Richmond

After trailing 24-3 after seven matches, the Ellsworth wrestling team dominated New Richmond in the final seven matches, pulling away with a 40-24 victory Thursday in Ellsworth.

After trailing 24-3 after seven matches, the Ellsworth wrestling team dominated New Richmond in the final seven matches, pulling away with a 40-24 victory Thursday in Ellsworth.

Jens Lantz got the Panthers’ first win, grabbing a 10-4 decision over Shane Blackman at 120 pounds. Afterwards, the Tigers rattled off four straight wins via decision.

At 152 pounds, Josh Hines got Ellsworth back on the scoreboard, pinning Michael Steel in 5 minutes, 55 seconds. After a New Richmond forfeit at 160 pounds put the score at 24-15, Gable Frandson got another pinfall victory for the Panthers in 1:26 against Dominic Ficociello.

Henry Holdorf gave Ellsworth its first lead of the match after scoring a 12-1 major decision at 182 pounds over Skylar Luger, putting the Panthers up for good.

Ellsworth is off until Dec. 28, when they travel to La Crosse for a holiday tournament.
