Boys Basketball: Cougars hold off rally

Thanks to a 17-point, 13-rebound effort by Kevin Niebuhr, Zumbrota-Mazeppa held off a second-half charge to pick up its first win, defeating La Crescent 71-67 Tuesday in Zumbrota.

Thanks to a 17-point, 13-rebound effort by Kevin Niebuhr, Zumbrota-Mazeppa held off a second-half charge to pick up its first win, defeating La Crescent 71-67 Tuesday in Zumbrota.

Nathaniel Rauen paced the Cougars with 19 points, adding five steals in the victory. Jacob Ugland finished with 12 points, and Lucas Ziemba chipped in with nine.

Leading 40-27 at halftime, Z-M was outscored 40-31 in the second half, but held on for the victory.

Z-M (1-2) completes its four-game home stand on Dec. 17, hosting Dover-Eyota.
