June Juanita Johnson, age 89, of Cannon Falls, died on Monday morning, Dec. 10, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

June Juanita Johnson, age 89, of Cannon Falls, died on Monday morning, Dec. 10, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

June was born on Sept. 6, 1923, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Nels G. and Nellie C. (Nelson) Nelson. She attended schools at Dodd, Emerson, Sibley and Humboldt High School in St. Paul. Following 10th grade, she left school to help out her parents at home. She lived in St. Paul until her marriage to Kenneth H. Johnson on Aug. 2, 1942, at Vasa Lutheran Church. She resided the rest of her life in Cannon Falls. She worked at Armour Meat Packing in So. St. Paul for 1 year and Kid Duds in Cannon Falls for 13 years. She also did child care and sewing from her home.

She was an active member of First English Lutheran Church, where she was involved with church circle, food shelf, leader and quilting. She also volunteered at Cannon Falls Schools for hearing/eye exams for many years, delivered Meals on Wheels, and was in the Golden Agers program.

June enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling in many U.S. states and Sweden, sewing, crocheting, gardening, and making quilts for each child and grandchild. She loved spending time with her family and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Kenneth; children, Susan Olson of Lee's Summit, Mo., Margaret "Peggy" (Leon) Reincke of Lake City, Janice "Jan" (Roger) Flaten of Cannon Falls, Alice (Gary) Stiller of Zumbrota, and Charles "Chuck" Johnson of St. Paul Park; 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; sister Frances "Frannie" Hillier of St. Paul; nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jerry Nelson; infant sister; and son-in-law Richard Olson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at First English Lutheran Church with Pastors Phillip Ruud and Daniel Forsgren officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Interment will be at the Cannon Falls Cemetery following lunch at church.

Memorials are preferred to donor's choice or to First English Lutheran Church.
