12/09/2012: UPDATE: One killed in Sunday afternoon crash; victim identified
One person was killed in a multi-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon, the Red Wing Fire Department reported.
A 21-year-old Winona, Minn., man was killed in a multi-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon, the Red Wing Fire Department reported.
Paramedics responded to Highway 61 just south of County Road 21 at 12:23 p.m. Justin J. Breza, 21, Winona, Minn., was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Minnesota State Patrol, a semi truck was southbound on Highway 61 when driver Roy A. Becker, 63, Blaine, Minn., lost control. The truck struck two southbound vehicles, a Toyota 4Runner, driven by Roger C. Calxton, 58, Hastings, and a Lincoln passenger car, driven by James J. Breza, 53, Winona, Minn.
All three drivers, as well as passengers Constance C. Claxton, 72, Hastings, and Sonja J. Breza, 53, Winona, were transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing.
Justin Breza was not wearing a seat belt. It's not known if James Breza was belted; all others were wearing seat belts.
Lake City Ambulance also assisted at the scene.
