Girls Hockey: Scoring flurry continues for Red Wing

Albert Lea was no match for Red Wing Saturday as the Wingers controlled the game from start to finish in a 9-1 blowout victory in Albert Lea.

Albert Lea was no match for Red Wing Saturday as the Wingers controlled the game from start to finish in a 9-1 blowout victory in Albert Lea.

Reagan Haley led Red Wing (10-0) with three goals and an assist as the Wingers continue to rack up state-leading numbers in their 10th consecutive victory. Red Wing has four players in the top 10 in the state in points: Reagan Haley is ninth with 25 points, Emily Stegora and Paige Haley are tied for fourth with 30 points and Nicole Schammel leads the state with 41 points. Stegora notched two goals and an assist, Paige Haley had two goals and an assist and Schammel added a goal and three assists in the win.

Seventh-grader Taylor Heise also tallied a goal for the Wingers while Kayla Oberding finished with two assists. Madeline Flack, Caitie Turcotte and Hailee Johnson each had an assist.

Anna Anderson scored Albert Lea’s lone goal on the power play 2 minutes 29 seconds into the game to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

But it wouldn’t last.

Schammel scored at 4:20 of the opening period to pull even and Reagan Haley notched all three of her goals before the period was through to give Red Wing a 4-1 lead into the first intermission.

In the second period, Heise scored a power-play goal at 9:10, Paige Haley scored unassisted at 11:49 and Stegora gave the Wingers an 8-1 lead at the end of the second with consecutive goals. Her second goal came on the power play at 15:07 of the second period.

Paige Haley finished off the scoring for Red Wing with a goal at 4:49 of the third period.

The Wingers are back in action Tuesday with a conference game on the road against New Prague.
