St. John's women hold powerful Advent celebration

Women and friends of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing celebrated “Advent by Candlelight” over Thanksgiving weekend. Hosted by the women’s ministry team at St. John’s, Advent by Candlelight encourages women in their faith as they prepare for the Christmas season.

This year’s theme was “Have Yourself a Mary Christmas” and it introduced three Biblical women from the life of Christ: Mary of Bethany, Mary the mother of Jesus and Mary Magdalene. Through personal narrative and a variety of musical performances, the “Marys” encouraged attendees not to get caught up in the chaos of the season but to ponder the truths of Christ’s love.
