Red Wing’s defensive pressure took Albert Lea out of rhythm Thursday as the Wingers turned a small halftime lead into a blowout 77-49 victory in Red Wing.
The Tigers committed 19 turnovers in the loss.
“In the second half, we forced them into a bunch of turnovers that led to transition points for us,” Red Wing head coach Doug Toivonen said. “Our defensive pressure just got to them. Our rebounding and ball pressure was outstanding tonight.”
The Wingers out-rebounded Albert Lea 39-19.
Sophomore Ty Buck led Red Wing (2-2) with 18 points and four assists while senior Ryan Boldt had six points and nine rebounds. Junior Jon Sevlie had 16 points and Senior Jack Leurquin had 16 points and nine rebounds in the win.
“Jack played great tonight,” Toivonen said. “Offensively, it looks like he did well but … just a great all-around effort from him. By far the best game he’s played.”
The Tigers (1-1) led 9-8 early but the Wingers never trailed after that point in the first half, leading 36-25 at halftime.
Miles Erdman had 14 points to lead Albert Lea and Dylan See-Rockers added 13 points.
Red Wing is back on the court Tuesday against Park Cottage Grove.
