Boys Basketball: Balanced scoring leads Tigers to victory

A well-balanced attack led Lake City to a 61-45 victory over Kingsland Saturday in Lake City.

The Tigers had four players score in double figures, led by Mitch Kuchinka, who tallied a career-high 13 points. Ben Schramski added 12 points and four blocks, Reid Lundell had 11 points and Brady Kuchinka finished with nine points, seven rebounds and four steals. Josh Atkinson contributed seven points, nine rebounds and four steals.

Kingsland was led by Jacob Rindels with 13 points on three 3-pointers. Filip Swanson scored 12 points and nine rebounds and Marcus Plaehn tallied 11 points and eight rebounds.

Lake City (2-0) took a 34-22 lead at halftime but the Knights cut the deficit to two points until a 3-pointer by Schramski with 9 minutes, 29 seconds remaining in the game sparked a 15-2 run for the Tigers.

“We persevered and found ways to get it done,” Lake City head coach Shawn Sweeney said.

Kingsland committed 20 turnovers but was helped by the Tigers shooting just 9 of 27 from the free-throw line.

Lake City’s next game is Tuesday at home against Ellsworth.
