Area Notebook: Area football players named to All-State team

Several area football players were recently named to the 2012 Minnesota Associated Press All-State Football Team.

Several area football players were recently named to the 2012 Minnesota Associated Press All-State Football Team.

Cannon Falls junior Austin Noble received the area’s highest distinction after being named to the All-State second team as an offensive lineman. Noble did not allow a sack the entire season. The Bombers received two more honorable mention nominations with junior Jordan Lundell getting picked at defensive back and returner, and senior Ian Althoff at running back.

Lake City had four players make the honorable mention team. Senior wide receiver Coleman Sweeney, junior running back Elliot Cox, senior defensive lineman Christian Custer and junior middle linebacker Will Balow all received honors.

Former Red Wing coach wins state title

Dave Broze, a former Red Wing High School track and field and cross-country coach for 13 years, is now helping coach the Desert Vista High School cross-country team in Phoenix, Ariz.

The Desert Vista boys cross-country team recently won the Division 1 (big schools) State championship.
