Getting over some early-season jitters, the Lake City boys basketball team opened its season with a 58-40 road victory over Dover-Eyota Friday in Eyota.

“I thought the kids played hard and we got a good effort,” said Tigers head coach Shawn Sweeney. “Sometimes, it was like a pinball game. We’d get a steal, then turn it over. Get a steal, then turn it over.”

Jake Griebenow led Lake City with a game-high 18 points, while Ben Schramski followed with 17. Both Griebenow and Schramski had five steals, as the Tigers finished with 25 swipes.

Both teams struggled to hold onto the ball, as Dover-Eyota had 30 turnovers, while Lake City had 18.

The Tigers are at home today, hosting Kingsland at 5 p.m.
