Alex Campbell returned for Ellsworth Friday and his presence helped the Panthers grab a 55-47 victory over Cannon Falls in Cannon Falls.
The score was tied 26-26 at halftime, but the Bombers’ shooting woes were too much to overcome in the second half. Cannon Falls finished its season opener shooting 20-for-66 from the field, including 4 of 24 from the 3-point line and just 3 of 15 from the free-throw line.
“That’s not going to win you too many games,” Cannon Falls head coach Josh Davisson said.
Chrystian Kulow finished with a game-high 17 points to lead Ellsworth (2-2, 0-1 Middle Border), and Campbell tallied a double-double in his first game back from knee surgery, scoring 13 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
“He is an athlete,” Davisson said of Campbell. “He’s thick, he’s physical. He did a good job of breaking us down all night long.”
Tanner Jackson led the Bombers (0-1) with 14 points and also had four rebounds. Jordan Lundell added nine points in the loss.
The Panthers’ next game is Tuesday in Lake City while Cannon Falls is off until Friday at the Maple River Hardwood Classic Invitational. The Bombers will play Maple River Friday at 8:15 p.m.
