Area tax meetings start Monday

As local government entities work to finalize their budgets, area residents will have a chance to voice their thoughts at annual property tax meetings starting next week.

The gatherings, generally known as truth-in-taxation meetings, offer locals an opportunity to hear from and address officials from the county, city and school district in which they live.

Most entities haven’t set their final budgets yet — the city of Red Wing has a special meeting to do so planned immediately following its taxation meeting, for example — but the meetings offer an opportunity for citizens to talk about the budgets, weigh in and get questions answered.

Below is a list of area meetings. Jurisdictions with fewer than 500 residents are exempt.
