Facing off with last season’s Section 1A runners-up, the Goodhue wrestling team had a tough time in its season opener, falling 50-13 to Kenyon-Wanamingo Thursday in Kenyon.

After the Knights opened the dual match with a win by decision, the Wildcats’ Joel Gadient picked up a 7-4 decision over Dylan Craig to take the 113-pound match.

At 126 pound, Matthew Lexvold picked up a 10-2 major decision to put Goodhue up 7-6 before K-W went on to win the next seven matches to take a commanding 44-7 lead. In that stretch, the Knights won five matches by pinfall.

Jacob Blattner would break Goodhue’s drought at 195 pounds, beating Bailey Paquin in a 10-4 decision. The Wildcats’ final win came at 285 pounds when Ryan Tipcke eked out a 1-0 decision over Nick Langer. Langer came into the match ranked ninth at 220 pounds.
